HHIPPO Link HMPE Soft Shackles for Industrial Rigging

HHIPPO Link soft shackles are used as HMPE rigging connectors by teams that require consistent strength, traceability, and controlled manufacturing. Available in diameters from 1/4" to 1-1/2", with working load limits ranging from 4,000 lb up to 88,400 lb, these soft shackles support a wide range of industrial lifting activities, including crane lifting, heavy equipment moves, and engineered synthetic assemblies.

Manufactured from high-modulus polyethylene (HMPE) fibers, HHIPPO Link soft shackles do not corrode, spark, or damage contact surfaces. The flexible construction allows them to conform to rounded or irregular anchor points while maintaining effective load transfer. This makes them suitable for use alongside synthetic slings, lifting assemblies, and non-metal connection points where steel hardware may introduce unnecessary weight or surface contact concerns.

How HHIPPO Link Soft Shackles Are Manufactured and What They Provide ?

HHIPPO Link soft shackles use HMPE fibers combined with a knot-and-loop closure to form a strong yet flexible synthetic connector. This construction supports efficient load transfer while keeping the shackle lightweight and adaptable across different rigging configurations. The absence of rigid metal components allows the shackle body to conform naturally to contact surfaces under load.

Core Material

  • High-modulus polyethylene (HMPE).
  • Non-corrosive and non-marring.
  • Floats in water (specific gravity ~0.97).
  • Continuous service temperature range from −40°F to 158°F.

Functional Features

  • Stopper knot serves as the primary load-bearing element.
  • Adjustable loop tightens under applied load.
  • Flexible body adapts to contact angles and surface geometry.
  • Available in multiple diameters, lengths, and color options.

These characteristics make HHIPPO Link soft shackles a practical option for teams using synthetic rigging systems in industrial, marine, and controlled lifting environments.

Design & Materials of HHIPPO Link Soft Shackles

HHIPPO Link soft shackles perform best when paired with rigging components designed for synthetic connections. Proper selection of contact surfaces and adherence to diameter guidelines support effective load transfer and help maintain service life..

Connection Points

  • Pins should be at least 3× the rope diameter.
  • Sheaves or rounded surfaces should be at least 8× the rope diameter .
  • Sharp edges, burrs, or abrasive contact areas should be avoided

Environmental Awareness

  • Temperature : −40°F to 158°F.
  • Extended UV exposure can affect long-term performance.
  • Chemical exposure may influence fiber behavior depending on substance.
  • Coating selection influences abrasion resistance.

Why Are HHIPPO Link Soft Shackles Used in Synthetic Rigging ?

Lightweight Handling

HHIPPO Link soft shackles weigh significantly less than comparable steel fittings, helping reduce operator fatigue during repetitive rigging tasks.

Flexible connection points

The knot-and-loop closure adapts to rounded anchors, lift points, and structural attachments.

Non-corrosive and floatable

HMPE fibers resist corrosion and float in water, supporting use in marine, offshore, and water-adjacent environments.

Reduced surface impact

Synthetic construction helps prevent damage to painted, coated, or finished equipment.

HHIPPO Link soft shackles are manufactured by Holloway Houston using verified HMPE fibers and established synthetic splicing techniques. Production processes focus on consistency and repeatable performance. Soft shackles are an emerging connector category, with the Cordage Institute’s CI 1702 standard currently in final review to establish a formal reference.

Full In-House Fabrication

In-House Manufacturing

HHIPPO Link soft shackles are produced within Holloway Houston facilities to maintain control over materials and assembly processes.

High-Quality Materials

Precision Splicing Methods

Each shackle is hand-spliced using recognized synthetic rigging techniques to support uniform load transfer.

Rigorous Testing

Standards Alignment

Product design references OSHA 1910.184 terminology, with soft shackle standards currently under development by the Cordage Institute.

Traceability and Certification

Industrial Application Focus

Manufactured for crane lifts, equipment handling, and non-metal connection points in synthetic rigging systems.

Inspection & Care

Before each use, inspect the soft shackle for :

  • Exposed or cut fibers.
  • Diameter reduction greater than 10%.
  • Heat glazing or stiffness.
  • Chemical discoloration or brittleness.
  • UV-related surface degradation.

After exposure to saltwater, sand, or contaminants, rinse thoroughly and allow the shackle to dry before storage.

Store away from prolonged sunlight. Inspection guidance aligns with OSHA 1910.184 terminology and WSTDA synthetic inspection practices.

Usage Guidelines for HHIPPO Link Soft Shackles

General Application Guidance

  • Confirm the working load limit listed on the product page.
  • Inspect the shackle body, knot, and loop before use.
  • Avoid routing over sharp or high-friction surfaces.
  • Maintain proper D/d ratios (3× pins, 8× sheaves).
  • Keep synthetic components clean after use.

Environmental Notes

HMPE fibers operate within −40°F and 158°F.

UV exposure affects long-term strength

Chemical compatibility varies by substance.

!

SAFETY NOTES

Always inspect prior to use. Do not exceed working load limits. Use only for approved applications. If any doubt exists regarding condition or use, discontinue immediately and consult the manufacturer.

hippo_link_img

Holloway brings you the HHIppo Link Soft Shackles – a new, improved version of the traditional soft shackles. It is made from a high-modulus polyethylene rope, which lends it exceptional strength and durability.

This single-strand soft shackle comes with a stopper at one end (a knot) and a round slice (a noose) at the other. Manufactured through our unique braiding machine, it has an additional braided polyester jacket coated with Fiber Lock as abrasion protection. This feature improves the Hippo LinkTM’s lifespan and durability.

Notable Features:

  • chain_1It is extremely light-weight, making it easy to carry or transport.
  • chain_1It can float in water, and hence, ideal for rigging applications in the deep sea or on ships.
  • chain_1It boasts a low stretch, which increases the shackle’s lifespan.
  • chain_1Because it is rust-resistant, it can be used in wet conditions, unlike steel shackles.
  • chain_1Removal is easy as it never binds or gets stuck even after attaching a heavy load.
  • chain_1It offers high strength and durability.

Primary Functions

HHIppo Link soft shackles are a robust and versatile shackling alternative to traditional shackles. They’re a simple and budget-friendly way of making rigging and lifting applications more secure and convenient.

Shackles are typically measured in lbs/tons, which means they don’t carry a PSI rating. PSI, or pounds per square inch, measures the amount of pressure placed on a square inch of space. It can help users estimate how much pressure or weight a shackle can endure.

At HHI, we have devised a testing method that enables us to test shackles to provide a precise PSI rating. This is incredibly helpful in situations where the application requires a PSI rating rather than the traditional lbs/tons.

Our customers can rest assured that HHIppo Link soft shackles can be safely used in a wide range of rigging and lifting applications.
