Green Pin Shackles & Rigging Hardware by Van Beest

Holloway Houston is an authorized distributor of Green Pin rigging hardware, manufactured by Royal Van Beest since 1922. The Green Pin range covers Grade 6 standard shackles, Grade 8 high-capacity shackles, and stainless steel models, each rated by working load limit (WLL) and marked with a traceability code. From standard lifting connections to DNV type-approved offshore shackles, Holloway Houston stocks commonly specified Green Pin shackles in Houston, Texas, and sources other models in the range on order.

The Green Pin Standard — Forged Performance for Industrial Lifting

Green Pin is the premium product line of Royal Van Beest, a manufacturer specializing in forged rigging hardware for heavy lifting, transport, and mooring applications. Green Pin traces its origin to 1922, when Dirk van Beest began manufacturing shackles in Sliedrecht, the Netherlands; today the Van Beest Group makes lifting, lashing, and mooring fittings.

Green Pin standard shackles are made from Grade 6 high tensile steel, quenched and tempered; the Super, Sling, and Heavy Duty lines use Grade 8 alloy steel, quenched and tempered, and the range also includes Grade 5 stainless steel bow and dee shackles. Green Pin states that its load-rated shackles are generally proof load tested; for the standard Grade 6 bow and dee shackles the published proof load is twice the Working Load Limit (WLL). Shackles for lifting are marked with the WLL, the manufacturer's symbol, a traceability code for the production batch, the steel grade, and the CE mark.

Green Pin's standard Grade 6 bow and dee shackles are made to EN 13889 and meet the performance requirements of US Federal Specification RR-C-271, and Green Pin states that they comply with ASME B30.26 from 2 metric tons WLL upward. The Grade 8 Super Bow shackles are listed to ASME B30.26 and RR-C-271. Standards statements for the other Grade 8 lines, including the Sling, Heavy Duty, and BigMouth shackles, differ by model. Selected models carry DNV Type Approval and CE marking, supporting compliance in offshore, marine, and regulated industrial environments.

As an authorized distributor, Holloway Houston maintains extensive inventory and answers product questions across the Green Pin range. With in-house proof testing and documentation capabilities, Holloway Houston supports both routine lifting work and project orders that call for test documentation.

Green Pin Products Available at Holloway Houston

Screw Pin Dee Shackles

Designed for straight-line loading, screw pin dee shackles maintain load alignment along the shackle body centerline, perpendicular to the pin. These are commonly used for single-leg sling connections and chain terminations where frequent assembly and removal are required. Green Pin lists the Dee Shackle SC (G-4151) in Grade 6 high tensile steel, quenched and tempered, with a removable screw pin, in working load limits from 0.33 to 55 metric tons.

Bolt Type Dee Shackles

Bolt type dee shackles include a nut and cotter pin to prevent pin rotation or loosening. Green Pin describes bolt type shackles for long-term or permanent rigging and for connections where the load may slide on the pin and turn it. The standard Green Pin bolt type dee shackle (G-4153) is Grade 6 high tensile steel, quenched and tempered and hot dip galvanized; the Heavy Duty bolt type dee shackles are Grade 8 alloy steel.

Bow Shackles

Bow shackles provide increased internal width to accommodate multiple sling legs or angular loading. Available in screw pin and bolt type configurations. Commonly used in multi-leg sling assemblies, spreader beam connections, and lifting systems where load direction may vary.

Super Bow Shackles

Green Pin super bow shackles are made from Grade 8 alloy steel, quenched and tempered. Green Pin uses the higher material strength to make the shackle more compact while keeping its working load limit, which suits confined spaces. The screw pin Super Bow Shackle SC runs from 3.3 to 85 metric tons WLL and the bolt type Super Bow Shackle BN from 3.3 to 175 metric tons WLL, with ABS type approval on both.

ROV Shackles

ROV shackles are designed for subsea installation using remotely operated vehicles. Features include extended handles and controlled pin geometry for underwater handling. Common applications include offshore pipeline installation, mooring systems, and deepwater infrastructure.

Hooks and Lifting Points

Green Pin also manufactures forged lifting hooks and swivel lifting points for secure load attachment. The Green Pin Rotating Hoist Ring is a Grade 8 lifting point that can rotate 360 degrees and pivot 180 degrees.

Select models also carry DNV or ABS type approval for offshore work.
Green Pin publishes the ratio of minimum breaking load (MBL) to Working Load Limit (WLL) model by model. The standard Grade 6 bow and dee shackles are listed at an MBL of 6 times the WLL, while Grade 8 lines such as the Super Bow, Sling, and Heavy Duty Dee shackles are listed at 5 times the WLL. The WLL remains the maximum allowable load in service.
Green Pin states that its load-rated shackles are generally proof load tested, with proof load test certificates available on request when the order is placed. For the standard Grade 6 bow and dee shackles the published proof load is twice the Working Load Limit; some larger Grade 8 sizes have a lower proof load ratio set by model. Shackles for lifting are marked with the WLL, the manufacturer's symbol, a traceability code, and the steel grade.
Both Green Pin and Crosby Group manufacture premium forged rigging hardware. Selection typically depends on project specifications, regional standards, and certification requirements.
