Storm Surge Slings (Adjustable Rope Slings)

In dynamic rigging environments, such as utility pole setting, tree removal, or emergency storm response carrying a dozen different fixed-length slings is impractical. You need a single tool that adapts to the job at hand. The Holloway Storm Surge Sling is that tool.

Designed and manufactured by Holloway Houston, these specialized rope slings feature an adjustable "whoopie" or "loopie" style splice mechanism. By sliding the rope through its own hollow-braid core, the sling's length can be infinitely adjusted within its range (e.g., from 2.5 ft to 4 ft). Under tension, the splice locks instantly and securely, providing a custom-fit choker or basket hitch every time.

The Adjustable Advantage

Why choose a Storm Surge Sling over a standard eye-and-eye sling?

  • Infinite Adjustability : No need to twist the sling or add shackles to shorten it. Simply slide the splice to the exact length required to level your load.
  • Hardware Reduction : The adjustable loop eliminates the need for knots (which reduce capacity) or extra connecting links.
  • Grip & Bite : The soft rope construction bites into timber, poles, and irregular shapes better than flat web slings, making them a favorite for arborists and utility riggers.

Capacity & Color Coding

To ensure safety on the job site, Holloway Houston Storm Surge Slings are color-coded by diameter and capacity.

Rope Diameter Color Vertical WLL Choker WLL Basket WLL
1/2" Green 2,200 lbs 1,760 lbs 4,400 lbs
5/8" Yellow 3,200 lbs 2,560 lbs 6,400 lbs
3/4" Orange 4,200 lbs 3,360 lbs 8,400 lbs

Note: The "Adjustable Range" listed (e.g., 3.5 to 5 FT) refers to the minimum and maximum usable length of the sling.

Applications

Where are Storm Surge Slings used?

  • Utility Repair : ideal for holding transformers or cross-arms where precise leveling is required.
  • Arboriculture : The standard rigging tool for lowering limbs and trunk sections (negative blocking) where the sling must cinch tight to the wood.
  • Emergency Response : Their lightweight and versatile nature make them essential for storm cleanup crews clearing debris.

Technical Specifications

  • Coating: Polyurethane coated for UV protection and abrasion resistance.
  • Compliance: Manufactured and tagged in accordance with ASME B30.9 standards.
