A soft shackle performs the exact mechanical function of a steel D-shackle without the heavy forging, stripped threaded pins, or the extreme hazard of a flying metal projectile during a failure event. Holloway Houston manufactures the premium HHIppo Link series in-house, featuring an HMPE core, Fiber Lock abrasion coating, and a tool-free button-knot closure. With Working Load Limits up to 9,400 lbs, a 5:1 design factor, and over 15 high-visibility colors, our 48-SKU catalog equips your off-road recovery kit for the most extreme, dynamic pulls.
In a modern vehicle recovery setup, the soft shackle appears at almost every connection point: joining winch lines to tree savers, securing pull loops to anchor eyes, and hooking into vehicle recovery points. It acts as the lowest-profile, lightest connection hardware available, completely eliminating the metal-on-metal stress points that degrade synthetic ropes.
Holloway Houston Inc. (HHI) builds the HHIppo Link soft shackle series directly at our Houston facility. We load-test every single unit on our own test beds to verify the Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS) before shipment. We also stock a value-tier imported line, giving operators 48 total SKUs to perfectly match their recovery system's load rating and budget.
The HHIppo Link represents our premium, USA-manufactured soft shackle line. Every unit undergoes physical load-testing at our facility to verify its MBS.
Mechanism: Features a high-strength HMPE core protected by a braided polyester outer jacket. The jacket receives a proprietary Fiber Lock coating to fight abrasion.
Closure: Utilizes a high-friction button-knot stopper that seats securely into the loop eye.
Options: Available in 5/16", 3/8", and 7/16" sizes across 15+ colors (including Blaze Orange, Saturn Yellow, Fusion Red, and Holloway Houston Green).
For buyers requiring soft shackle capability without the premium HHIppo Link price point, Holloway Houston stocks a value-tier imported line.
Mechanism: Standard synthetic construction with a button-knot closure.
Validation: While imported, these units carry the exact same WLL and 5:1 design factor structure as our domestic line, verified against Cordage Institute (CI) standards per Holloway Houston's internal quality process.
Options: Available in 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", and 7/16" sizes.
Soft shackles function on a 5:1 Design Factor (MBS = 5x WLL). Match your soft shackle's WLL to the load demand at the connection point.
| Size (Dia x Length) | WLL | MBS |
|---|---|---|
| 1/4" x 6" | 4,000 | 20,000 |
| 5/16" x 10" | 5,800 | 29,000 |
| 3/8" x 10" | 8,700 | 43,500 |
| 7/16" x 10" | 9,400 | 47,000 |
Note: HHIppo Link pricing varies slightly based on the specific color selection. The 3/8" size serves as the industry standard for pairing with mid-range 9,000 to 11,000-lb winch setups.
Winch Line to Tree Saver Connection: The standard trail configuration. The soft shackle bridges the loop end of a synthetic winch line to the eyes of a tree saver strap, providing a low-profile connection that eliminates heavy metal from the anchor zone.
Recovery Point to Tow Line: Attaching a kinetic recovery rope to a vehicle's receiver hitch mount or factory recovery point.
Marine and Water Operations: Soft shackles float and do not corrode. They are the ideal connection hardware for marine recovery, boat towing, and swamp crossings where metal shackles quickly seize from rust.
Competition Off-Road: Pit crews utilize the 15+ HHIppo Link color options to instantly visually identify load ratings in the field. The button-knot opens bare-handed, accelerating setup and teardown times in the mud.
Industrial & Utility: Used in specialty rigging applications where a lightweight, non-sparking, and non-conductive connector provides distinct safety advantages over steel hardware around power lines or flammable gases.
Soft shackles are load-bearing synthetic components. Understanding their mechanical limits prevents field failures.
Button-Knot Seating: The button-knot keeps the loop from opening under load. The knot MUST pass completely through the eye. Once tension applies, the eye clamps down on the knot. An improperly seated knot will pull through instantly under a heavy load.
MBS vs. WLL: The Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS) represents the tested failure point. The Working Load Limit (WLL) is your field operating limit. Never exceed the WLL during a pull.
Friction and Heat: Extreme heat generated by rope-on-rope friction melts HMPE fibers, destroying the shackle's strength. Never use a soft shackle in a configuration where a synthetic winch line slides or saws rapidly back and forth across the shackle body.
Sharp Edges: Soft shackles excel on smooth anchor points and radiused recovery rings. Running a soft shackle through a steel bumper mount with sharp, unchamfered 90-degree edges will slice the fibers under tension.
No Overhead Lifting: Soft shackles are engineered for horizontal vehicle recovery. They do not comply with ASME B30.26 (Rigging Hardware) and are explicitly NOT rated for vertical overhead lifting.
