Couldn't find the exact size or configuration?

Holloway Houston builds custom slings in-house to your exact specs - any length, WLL, and end fitting combination, with proof testing and cert documentation.

The eye end is what turns a turnbuckle body into a usable tension component on one side of the assembly. A closed loop threads into the body, and once the assembly is tensioned, that loop sits on a shackle, pin, or mating hardware at the attachment point. Eye ends come into play when you are building a custom eye-jaw assembly, replacing a damaged end fitting in an existing turnbuckle, or adding an eye end to a bare body to complete an eye-eye configuration. Holloway Houston stocks turnbuckle eye ends to pair with Crosby HG-2510 bodies across the full thread size range. Call our rigging specialists for size availability and quantity pricing.

Turnbuckle Eye Ends for Custom and Replacement Assemblies

A turnbuckle eye end is a threaded fitting with a closed loop (eye) on the non-threaded end. It threads into one end of a turnbuckle body to provide the connection point for shackles, thimbles, hooks, and fixed pins. When used in combination with a jaw end on the opposite side of the body, the result is an eye-jaw assembly. When paired with a matching eye end on both sides, the result is eye-eye.

Eye ends are governed by the same standards as the complete assembly - ASME B30.26 (Rigging Hardware) and ASTM F1145. The WLL of the eye end is matched to the body WLL at the same thread size. The weakest link in the assembly sets the rated capacity of the whole.

Eye ends are stocked separately for two primary uses: building custom assemblies with specific end fitting combinations and replacing damaged or worn end fittings in existing assemblies where the body remains serviceable. Holloway Houston carries turnbuckle eye ends compatible with Crosby HG-2510 bodies. Call for current size availability and pricing.

Turnbuckle Eye End Types and Configurations

Standard Eye End

The standard eye end carries a closed loop - the eye - sized and threaded to match the nominal thread diameter of the turnbuckle body. The threaded shank engages the body, and the eye protrudes beyond the body to accept the connection hardware. Standard eye ends are available in right-hand thread (for the RH end of a standard body) and left-hand thread (for the LH end). Matching the thread direction of the eye end to the corresponding body end is part of correct assembly.

Eye End Thread Size Range

Turnbuckle eye ends for use with Crosby HG-2510 bodies are available in thread sizes from 5/16 inch to 2-3/4 inch, covering the full body size range. At each thread size, the eye end WLL matches the body WLL - 800 lbs at 5/16 inch, 3,500 lbs at 5/8 inch, 10,000 lbs at 1 inch, up to 75,000 lbs at 2-3/4 inch.

Replacement Eye Ends

When an eye end in an existing turnbuckle assembly is damaged - bent eye, cracked body, worn threads - replacing the end fitting alone (while retaining the serviceable body) can restore the assembly to rated condition. Replacement eye ends for Crosby bodies are matched components from the same product family. Verification of the thread size, thread direction (RH or LH), and compatibility with the existing body is completed before ordering a replacement.

1-3/4"28,000 lbs
2"37,000 lbs
2-1/2"60,000 lbs
2-3/4"75,000 lbs

Thread Direction:

  • Right-hand (RH) - For the right-hand thread end of the HG-2510 body
  • Left-hand (LH) - For the left-hand thread end of the HG-2510 body

For eye-eye assemblies, two eye ends are needed - one RH, one LH - in matching thread size.

For eye-jaw assemblies, one eye end and one HG-4037 jaw end are needed in matching thread size.

Turnbuckle Eye End Selection Considerations

Selecting a replacement or new-build eye end starts with three parameters: thread size, thread direction, and the body it will be paired with.

Thread Size: Match the eye end thread size to the body thread size and the required WLL. At 5/8 inch, the assembly rates at 3,500 lbs. At 1 inch, 10,000 lbs.

Thread Direction: A standard turnbuckle body has one RH thread end and one LH thread end. An eye-eye assembly uses one RH eye end and one LH eye end. An eye-jaw assembly uses one eye end and one jaw end, with thread directions matched to the corresponding body ends.

Body Compatibility: Eye ends in this category are designed for use with Crosby HG-2510 bodies. Body and end fittings from the same Crosby product family in the same thread size are consistent with the manufacturer's documentation and the rated WLL.

Replacement Check: For replacement applications, remove the existing end fitting and measure the thread diameter. Thread direction (RH or LH) is verified before ordering the replacement. Crosby manufacturer documentation addresses body thread inspection as part of the replacement procedure - review that documentation before proceeding with the installation of a new end fitting.

Turnbuckle Eye End Safety and Awareness

Turnbuckle eye ends are load-bearing rigging hardware governed by ASME B30.26 and ASTM F1145. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.251 applies to rigging hardware in OSHA Part 1926 workplaces. The following awareness points apply:

  • Eye ends are individually marked with the WLL per ASME B30.26. Manufacturer documentation addresses WLL matching - the eye end and body WLL are matched at the same thread size.
  • Visual inspection of eye ends before each use is standard practice. Points to look for include cracks, deformation, bent eyes, corrosion, and thread damage. A bent or deformed eye is a removal-from-service indicator. Cracks at the eye-to-shank transition are a failure initiation point to look for.
  • Thread engagement between the eye end and the body is addressed in Crosby manufacturer documentation. Minimum engagement requirements apply. Count exposed threads on the end fitting as a quick field check.
  • Welding, heat-treating, or reshaping eye ends voids the manufacturer's rated WLL.
  • After the assembly is tensioned and locked, the eye connection hardware (shackle, pin) should be checked to confirm it is fully seated. A shackle that is not fully screwed home or a pin that is not properly secured is not engaged at the rated capacity of the hardware.
  • Proof test certificates and material certifications are provided with every Holloway Houston shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you couldn't find your query please write to us wirerope@hollowayhouston.com

A turnbuckle eye end is a threaded fitting with a closed loop on the non-threaded end. It threads into one end of a turnbuckle body to provide a shackle or pin connection point. When tensioned, the eye sits on the connection hardware - a shackle, hook, or mating pin - at the attachment point. Eye ends are governed by ASME B30.26 and ASTM F1145 and are available in thread sizes from 5/16 inch to 2-3/4 inch.
Eye ends are ordered separately when building a custom assembly with a specific end fitting combination (eye-jaw, for example), or when replacing a damaged eye end in an existing assembly where the body is still serviceable. For applications where a standard eye-eye or jaw-jaw assembly fits, complete turnbuckles (HG-226 or HG-228) are typically easier to order as a unit.
Yes. Eye ends are available in both right-hand and left-hand thread. A standard turnbuckle body has one RH thread end and one LH thread end. For an eye-eye assembly, one RH eye end and one LH eye end are needed. For an eye-jaw assembly, one eye end and one HG-4037 jaw end are needed, with thread directions matched to the corresponding body ends.
The eye end WLL is matched to the body WLL at the same thread size. At 5/8 inch, the WLL is 3,500 lbs. At 1 inch, 10,000 lbs. At 1-1/2 inch, 21,400 lbs. These ratings are consistent across Crosby-matched eye ends and body combinations at the same thread size.
Minimum thread engagement between the eye end and the body is addressed in Crosby manufacturer documentation for the HG-2510 body and matched end fittings. Standard practice follows the manufacturer's published minimum engagement values. In the field, counting the number of exposed threads on the end fitting shank is a common way to verify engagement is within specification.
Using matched components from the same manufacturer and product family - Crosby eye ends with a Crosby HG-2510 body in the same thread size - is consistent with the manufacturer's documentation and the rated WLL. Mixing components from different manufacturers or product lines falls outside the manufacturer's rated assembly. Engineering review is the appropriate path when a non-standard component combination is being considered.
