Bolt Type Anchor Shackles

In rigging operations where safety is paramount and loads are dynamic, the Bolt Type Anchor Shackle is the industry's standard connection point. Unlike screw-pin shackles which are designed for temporary use, Bolt Type shackles feature a robust safety mechanism: a threaded pin secured by a nut and a stainless steel cotter pin. This redundancy ensures that the pin cannot back out, even if the load rotates or vibrates for days on end.

Bolt Type Anchor Shackles

Holloway Houston stocks the Yoke DA-808 Series, a premium line of drop-forged alloy steel shackles. These shackles combine the security of the bolt-type design with the versatility of the "Anchor" (Bow) shape, allowing them to handle multi-leg slings and side-loading scenarios that would compromise a standard Dee shackle.

The Bolt Type Advantage

Why choose a Bolt Type (Safety) Shackle?

  • Roll-Out Protection : In rigging, a load can rotate, creating friction that unscrews a standard pin. The DA-808's cotter pin acts as a fail-safe secondary lock, making it mandatory for permanent installations, offshore mooring, and long-term suspension.
  • Dynamic Loading : Ideal for applications where the shackle is subjected to vibration, shock loading, or constant movement (e.g., crane blocks, tow lines).

Anchor Bow vs. Dee Shackle

The shape of the shackle determines its function.

  • Anchor (Bow) Shackle (This Category) : The rounded "O" shape of the bow provides a larger internal clearance. This allows the shackle to accept multiple sling legs at once without bunching. It also allows for side-loading (lifting at an angle), provided the WLL is de-rated according to the manufacturer's angle chart.
  • Dee Shackle : U-shaped body. Strictly for straight-line pulls.

Product Spotlight: Yoke DA-808 Series

Holloway Houston stocks the Yoke DA-808, known for its high strength-to-weight ratio and distinctive yellow pin.

  • Material : Forged Carbon Steel with Alloy Pin.
  • Finish : Hot Dip Galvanized for superior corrosion resistance in marine environments.
  • Proof Test : Individually proof tested to 2 times the Working Load Limit (WLL).
  • Markings : Embossed with Size, WLL, Trace Code (for material traceability), and Yoke branding.

Capacity & Sizing Guide

Our inventory covers the full spectrum of heavy-duty rigging needs.

  • Standard Rigging : Sizes from 5/8" (3.25 Ton) to 1-1/8" (9.5 Ton) for general construction and equipment handling.
  • Heavy Lift : Large bore shackles from 1-1/4" (12 Ton) up to 1-3/4" (25 Ton) for major structural lifts.

Note : Always match the shackle size to the pin diameter of your mating hardware. The pin diameter is typically one size larger than the nominal shackle size.

Technical Specifications & Compliance

  • Standard : Meets the performance requirements of Federal Specification RR-C-271D, Type IVA, Grade A, Class 3.
  • Design Factor : 6:1 (Minimum Breaking Strength is 6 times the WLL).
  • Fatigue Rated : Engineered to withstand cyclic loading without failure.
  • Temperature : Rated for use in extreme temperatures from -40°F to 400°F.

Complete Your Rigging Assembly

A shackle is the link between the hook and the load. Ensure your assembly is complete with :

  • Wire Rope Slings : Connect the shackle bow to your multi-leg bridle.
  • Master Links : Use the shackle to connect slings to a master link for crane hook attachment.
  • Spreader Beams : The preferred connection point for stabilizing heavy loads.
