Container Lifting Hooks

Secure Lifting for Shipping Containers & Connex Boxes

Lifting ISO shipping containers requires precise, positive-locking hardware that fits standard corner castings. Holloway Houston, Inc. (HHI) stocks industrial-grade Container Hooks (also known as Lifting Lugs) engineered to engage ISO 1161 corner fittings safely and efficiently.

Unlike standard eye hooks which can slip or point-load the casting, our container hooks are designed with a specific cam or lug profile that "locks" into the corner casting when under load. Whether you are performing a top-lift with a spreader beam or a bottom-lift with a sling bridle, we have the directional hardware to ensure a level, secure pick.

Technical Guide: Left, Right, and Straight Hooks

Container hooks are directional. They are sold and used in specific sets to ensure the load forces are applied correctly to the casting walls.

1. 45° Angled Hooks (Left & Right Hand) Designed for use with a 4-leg wire rope or chain sling bridle where the sling legs angle inward toward a master link.

  • The Mechanism : The "Left" and "Right" designation refers to the orientation of the hook when facing the container end. They are engineered to pivot and lock at a 45-degree angle, aligning with the sling leg to prevent bending stress.
  • Usage : Must be used in sets of 4 (2 Lefts, 2 Rights) to lift from the bottom corner castings.

Straight Lift Hooks Designed for vertical lifting only.

  • Usage : Typically used with a spreader beam where the drop lines come straight down (90° vertical) to the top or bottom corner castings.
  • Warning : Do not use straight hooks on an angled bridle; the side-loading force can cause the hook to disengage or fail.

Compatibility & Standards

  • ISO 1161 Compliance : Fits standard corner castings on 20ft and 40ft containers.
  • WLL Ratings : Our inventory includes Yoke and Crosby models with Working Load Limits (WLL) up to 28,000 lbs per hook.
  • Material : Forged alloy steel, Quenched and Tempered for maximum ductility and fatigue resistance.

Safety Warning : Container hooks are designed for lifting only. They are not intended for lashing or tie-down applications. Never lift a loaded container unless the hardware is rated for the gross weight and the container structure is sound.

The HHI Advantage: Tested & Traceable

We don't just ship hardware; we verify it.

  • In-House Testing : HHI operates a 3,000-ton test bed to proof-test container lifting assemblies upon request.
  • Availability : Large stock of Yoke and Crosby hooks in Houston, ready for immediate dispatch to ports and job sites.
