The Shank Hook Ecosystem

1. Standard Blank Shank Hooks (Crosby L-320R / L-320AN)

The blank canvas for your custom lifting device.

• Design: These hooks feature a long, cylindrical "blank" shank extending from the top of the hook bowl.
• Application: They are designed to be precision-machined (threaded or slotted) by a qualified engineer to fit specifically into the thrust bearing or nut of a crane block or custom lifting beam.
• Material Options: Available in both carbon steel (L-320R) and higher-capacity alloy steel (L-320AN/L-562A).

2. Self-Locking Shank Hooks (Crosby S-1318A)

Combine the custom fit of a shank hook with the ultimate safety of a positive-locking mechanism.

• Feature: Operates exactly like a standard Shur-Loc hook, closing and locking automatically under load to prevent "roll-out."
• Application: Ideal for upgrading older crane blocks or hoists on safety-critical construction sites that now mandate self-locking hooks.

3. Heavy Lift & ROV Hooks

Designed for the most extreme environments and demanding lifting applications.

• Extreme Capacity: Our inventory supports heavy-lift operations with models rated up to 200 tons.
• ROV Options: Specialized shank hooks (such as the CSOROV series) are designed for subsea use, allowing Remote Operated Vehicles to interact with the hook securely underwater.

Critical Safety & Machining Guidelines

Because shank hooks are often modified before use, strict adherence to engineering standards is required:

• Qualified Machining Only: The machining of the shank (threading, milling, or drilling) must be done by a qualified facility. Improper threading can create stress risers, leading to catastrophic failure.
• Never Weld: You must never weld directly onto the shank or the hook body to secure it. The heat from welding destroys the quenched and tempered metallurgical properties of the forged steel.
• Inspection: Regular inspection of the shank hook assembly must include checking the retaining nut, thrust bearing, and the threads for wear or elongation.

• Capacities: 0.75 ton to 200 tons.
• Material: Drop forged carbon or alloy steel (quenched and tempered).
• Safety Factor: Generally 5:1 for carbon steel and 4:1 for alloy steel (always refer to the manufacturer's specific guidelines based on the final machined assembly).
• Standards: Forgings meet or exceed the requirements of ASME B30.10.
