Replacement Hooks for Industrial Rigging

Rigging hardware is subjected to extreme stress, and the hook is often the component that sees the most wear and tear from load engagement and abrasive contact. When a hoist hook becomes stretched, deformed, or fails an inspection, replacing the entire hoist or block is often unnecessary and costly.

Holloway Houston supplies top-tier replacement hooks like the Crosby S-3316 designed to retrofit into existing manual hoists, lever blocks, and custom lifting assemblies. Manufactured from forged alloy steel, these hooks provide the critical strength and reliability required to keep your lifting operations compliant and safe.

Key Benefits of Crosby® Replacement Hooks

Choosing a Crosby replacement hook ensures that your repaired lifting equipment meets the highest global safety standards:

  • Quenched and Tempered® Steel: Crosby’s proprietary heat-treatment process ensures the hook yields (bends) before it catastrophically breaks, providing a visible warning of overload.
  • Fatigue Rated: Engineered to withstand the repetitive stress of constant lifting and lowering without suffering from metal fatigue.
  • QUIC-CHECK® Deformation Indicators: Forged marks on the hook allow riggers to quickly measure if the throat opening has stretched or if the hook has been overloaded.
  • Heavy-Duty Safety Latches: Equipped with robust, spring-loaded safety latches to keep slings, rings, and hardware securely seated in the bowl of the hook during slack conditions.
  • Full Traceability: Every Crosby hook features a Product Identification Code (PIC) forged directly into the metal, allowing for full material traceability.

How Holloway Houston Delivers Rigging Hardware

Holloway Houston is an authorized, premier stocking distributor for The Crosby Group. We don't just supply replacement parts; we provide the technical expertise to ensure your equipment is safe.

  • Massive Inventory: We maintain one of the largest stocks of Crosby hardware on the Gulf Coast. If you need a replacement fast, we likely have it on our shelves.
  • Testing & Recertification: Do you need your repaired hoist block tested? Our in-house testing facility can proof test your assembly after the replacement hook is installed to ensure full ASME compliance.
  • Expert Support: Not sure which replacement hook fits your specific hoist model? Call 1-888-496-4700 and our rigging specialists will cross-reference the specifications for you.

Design & Engineering Considerations

When selecting a replacement hook, it is critical to match the engineering specifications of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

  • WLL Matching: The Working Load Limit of the replacement hook MUST equal or exceed the capacity of the hoist or assembly it is being attached to.
  • Hardware Compatibility: Ensure the eye or shank of the replacement hook is dimensionally compatible with the load chain, wire rope thimble, or attachment block.
  • Load Orientation: Replacement hooks are designed to support the load strictly in the "bowl" (saddle) of the hook. Never side-load, back-load, or tip-load a hoist hook.

Inspection & Care Criteria (ASME B30.10)

Per ASME B30.10 standards, all hooks must be visually inspected prior to use. Even newly replaced hooks require ongoing maintenance.

Remove the hook from service immediately if you detect:

  • Throat Opening Stretch: The throat opening has increased by more than 5% from its original manufactured dimension (or exceeds the QUIC-CHECK marks).
  • Twisting: The hook is twisted more than 10 degrees from its unbent, original plane.
  • Wear: There is a 10% or greater reduction in the original dimension of the hook's saddle or eye.
  • Latch Failure: The safety latch is missing, bent, or fails to fully close and secure the throat opening.
  • Cracks or Nicks: Any visible gouges, cracks, or severe corrosion on the forged metal.

Safety Notes

Safety Note: Information provided is for reference only and does not replace engineering evaluation or approved lift plans. Replacing a hook on a lifting device may require the entire assembly to be proof-tested prior to returning to service. Always verify specifications, consult the hoist manufacturer's guidelines, and follow all applicable ASME B30.10 and OSHA safety standards before use.
