Hook Latch Kits & Replacement Load Pins

Lifting hooks are built tough, but their moving parts; latches, springs, and triggers are wear items. A bent safety latch or a sticky trigger mechanism is a common reason for failing a rigging inspection. Fortunately, you don't always need to buy a new hook.

Holloway Houston Inc. (HHI) stocks the genuine Repair Kits you need to refurbish your hooks in the field. From simple spring-loaded flapper latches for Crosby hooks to complex trigger assemblies for Gunnebo Self-Locking hooks, we supply the exact OEM parts required to restore your hardware to safe working condition.

The Replacement Parts Ecosystem

1. Crosby Latch Kits (S-4320 / SS-4055)

The standard for Crosby hook repair.

  • S-4320: The classic heavy-duty latch kit for Crosby hoist hooks (319N, 320N, 322). Includes the latch, stainless steel spring, and bolt.
  • SS-4055: Stainless steel latch kits for Crosby's specific stainless hook line.
  • Installation: Easy to install with a simple nut and bolt. Note: Always ensure the latch tip sits flush against the hook nose.

2. Gunnebo Industries Trigger Kits (RDS / RDE)

Gunnebo's "BK" and "OBK" Self-Locking hooks are famous for their reliability, but the trigger mechanism can get packed with dirt or damaged by impact.

3. Load Pins & Retainers

The unsung heroes of the assembly.

  • Wear & Tear: Over time, the load pin connecting a hook to a chain or wire rope thimble can wear down. If the pin diameter is reduced by more than 5% or shows signs of deformation, it must be replaced.
  • Availability: We stock pins for Crosby (S-4088) and Gunnebo (G-Pin) clevis hooks.

Why Use Genuine OEM Parts?

1. Safety Certification

Rigging hooks are tested and certified as a complete assembly. Installing a generic "universal" latch on a Crosby or Gunnebo hook voids the manufacturer's warranty and may not meet ASME B30.10 standards. The latch must properly bridge the throat opening to prevent the sling from slipping out.

2. Perfect Fit

OEM kits are engineered for specific hook models.

  • A Gunnebo SKA-10 trigger kit is designed specifically for a 10mm (3/8") BK hook. It ensures the locking mechanism engages fully every time.
  • A generic latch might leave a gap or fail to close under spring tension.

3. Material Integrity

Genuine kits use high-grade stainless steel springs and corrosion-resistant coatings that match the original hook's durability. Cheap aftermarket springs often rust and fail quickly.

Inspection: When to Replace?

  • Latches: Replace if the latch is bent, the spring is weak (doesn't snap shut), or if the latch tip does not seat against the hook nose.
  • Triggers: Replace if the trigger is sticky, cracked, or if the hook fails to lock automatically when closed.
  • Load Pins: Replace if there is visible wear, grooving, or if the retaining pin/cotter pin is missing.
