In the hierarchy of fall protection, the Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL); commonly known as a "Yo-Yo" or "Retractable" provides superior safety compared to standard shock-absorbing lanyards. By automatically extending and retracting as the worker moves, an SRL keeps the line under constant tension, eliminating tripping hazards and, most importantly, locking instantly in the event of a fall. This immediate braking action limits free fall distance to inches rather than feet, significantly reducing impact forces on the body.

1. Personal Twin-Leg SRLs (100% Tie-Off)
- Featured Model : Red Dragon 8 ft Wire Twin Leg SRL with Rebar Hooks.
- Application : Designed to attach directly to the Dorsal D-Ring of the worker's harness.
- Function : The "Twin Leg" design features two separate retractables. This allows the worker to move between anchor points (like moving across scaffolding or climbing a tower). By connecting one leg to a new anchor before disconnecting the old one, the worker maintains 100% Tie-Off protection at all times.
- Hardware : Equipped with large Rebar Hooks for easy connection to structural steel and scaffolding.
2. Overhead / Stationary SRLs
- Featured Model : Red Dragon 30 ft Wire SRL with Carabiner.
- Application : Typically mounted to a fixed overhead anchor point (like a beam trolley or tripod).
- Function : Provides a long working range (30 ft) for vertical movement. Ideal for climbing fixed ladders, accessing tank hatches, or working in a specific radius below the anchor.
- Durability : The rugged housing and wire rope construction ensure longevity even in harsh outdoor elements.

Inspection & Safety
SRLs are life-saving devices that require diligence.
- Pre-Use Check : Pull the line out and allow it to retract. It should move smoothly without binding. Inspect the wire for "bird-caging" (separation of strands), kinks, or broken wires.
- Impact Indicator : Check the hook/connector. Most SRLs feature a visual indicator (like a red band) that is exposed if the unit has been subjected to a fall. If the indicator is visible, remove the unit from service immediately.
- Recertification : These mechanical devices must be inspected annually by a Competent Person.
