The ABCD of Fall Protection
A complete fall arrest system consists of three main components (plus the rescue plan). We stock the critical gear for B (Body Support) and C (Connecting Devices).
1. Body Support : Full Body Harnesses The harness distributes fall forces across the strongest parts of the body (thighs, pelvis, chest, and shoulders).
- Product Spotlight : Ultra-Safe Full Body Harnesses.
- Features : These harnesses feature a Center Back D-Ring (Dorsal), which is the standard attachment point for fall arrest. It keeps the worker upright after a fall, facilitating rescue.
- Sizing : Proper fit is non-negotiable. We stock sizes from Small to X-Large to ensure every worker can secure a snug, safe fit. Loose harnesses can cause injury during fall arrest.
2. Connecting Devices: Self-Retracting Lifelines (SRLs) SRLs (or "Yo-Yos") extend and retract automatically, allowing the worker freedom of movement while keeping tension on the line. In the event of a fall, the internal brake locks instantly (like a seatbelt) to arrest the fall within inches.

- Wire vs. Web : We feature Wire Rope lifelines. Unlike nylon webbing, wire rope is resistant to cuts, abrasion, and heat, making these units ideal for welding, grinding, or leading-edge work.
- 100% Tie-Off : The 8 ft Twin Leg models allow workers to move between anchor points. By connecting one leg before disconnecting the other, the worker remains protected 100% of the time.
- Range : Standard 30 ft units provide ample reach for vertical movement on ladders or scaffolding.
Technical Compliance & Standards
Fall protection is strictly regulated. All equipment sold by HHI meets or exceeds:
- OSHA 1926.502 / 1910.140 : Federal regulations for fall protection criteria.
- ANSI/ASSP Z359 : The consensus standard for fall protection codes.
Inspection & Safety
- Pre-Use Check : Users must inspect their gear before every shift. Look for frayed wires, cracked housing, deployed impact indicators, or chemical damage on webbing.
- Competent Person Inspection : Equipment must be inspected annually (at minimum) by a Competent Person.
- Retirement : Any equipment subjected to fall arrest forces must be immediately removed from service and destroyed or returned to the manufacturer for service.
Choosing the Right Gear
- Harness Size : Do not guess. Check the size chart. A harness should fit snugly; you should not be able to slide a flat hand between the leg strap and your leg.
