Hammerhead Slings

Hammerhead Slings are Holloway Houston's endless polyester core (EPC) round slings — the go-to choice where a flat web sling would damage a finished surface or where the 360-degree contact of a round sling reduces point loading on the load. WLL ratings run from 5,770 lbs (HH-9-EPC, purple) to 54,400 lbs (HH-30-EPC, orange), covering most below-the-hook and rigging applications where a synthetic round sling fits the job. Available in 10-foot, 15-foot, and 20-foot lengths on applicable models.

Hammerhead EPC Round Slings

An endless polyester core round sling is a continuous loop of polyester load yarn enclosed in a woven polyester cover. The round profile distributes load across the full circumference at the contact point, reducing surface pressure compared to a flat web sling at the same WLL. The cover protects the core yarn from abrasion, UV, and contamination; the core carries the load.

Holloway Houston manufactures Hammerhead Slings per ASME B30.9 (Slings) and WSTDA RS-1 (Synthetic Round Slings). Color coding follows the WSTDA standard, purple, green, yellow, red, white, green, blue, orange, so the WLL class is identifiable by sight. Every sling ships with a permanently attached ID tag per ASME B30.9.

Hammerhead Models and WLL Ratings

Product Code Color WLL (Working Load Limit)
HH-9-EPC Purple 5,770 lbs
HH-11-EPC Green WLL per tag
HH-12-EPC Yellow WLL per tag
HH-16-EPC Red WLL per tag
HH-18-EPC Blue WLL per tag
HH-22-EPC Orange WLL per tag
HH-24-EPC Orange WLL per tag
HH-28-EPC Orange WLL per tag
HH-30-EPC Orange 54,400 lbs

Available lengths vary by model. Standard options run 10, 15, and 20 feet on applicable models.

Where Hammerhead Slings Are Used

  • Heavy Manufacturing : Lifting machined parts, castings, and assemblies where a flat web sling would mark the finish.
  • Offshore and Marine : Round slings in multi-leg configurations for structural steel and equipment lifts on platforms and vessels.
  • Construction Sites : Crane picks on structural members, precast panels, and mechanical equipment where load distribution across the pick point matters.
  • Oil and Gas : Equipment handling in refineries and petrochemical plants; round slings are widely specified for sensitive surface lifts.
  • Fabrication Shops : Turning and repositioning parts during welding and fit-up operations.

Why Holloway Houston for Hammerhead Slings

Holloway Houston has manufactured rigging equipment in Houston for over 65 years. Hammerhead Slings are manufactured in-house under an ISO 9001 quality management system, not sourced from a third-party manufacturer under a private label.

Our rigging inspection team evaluates synthetic round slings per ASME B30.9 and OSHA 1910.184. If a sling comes out of service after inspection, reordering by model and tag serial number is straightforward through Holloway Houston.

Sling Inspection and Retirement

Hammerhead Slings are synthetic round slings governed by ASME B30.9. Indicators that a round sling warrants removal from service include cuts or tears to the cover, exposed core yarn, heat discoloration, chemical attack, missing or illegible ID tag, or any deformation that changes the sling's geometry. Holloway Houston's inspection team can assess condition in the field.

Frequently Asked Questions

EPC stands for endless polyester core. A Hammerhead EPC sling is a continuous loop of polyester load yarn enclosed in a woven polyester cover. The round profile distributes load across the full circumference at the contact point rather than concentrating it on the edge of a flat web sling. WLL ratings on Holloway Hammerhead models run from 5,770 lbs to 54,400 lbs.
Color coding follows the WSTDA RS-1 standard for synthetic round slings, with each color corresponding to a WLL class — purple (HH-9), green (HH-11), yellow (HH-12), red (HH-16), blue (HH-18), and orange for higher-capacity models. The color allows the WLL class to be confirmed by sight on the rigging floor.
Hammerhead Slings are manufactured per ASME B30.9 (Slings) and WSTDA RS-1 (Synthetic Round Slings). OSHA 1910.184 governs inspection and use in general industry. Each sling carries a permanently attached ID tag as required by ASME B30.9.
Available lengths vary by model. Standard options run 10, 15, and 20 feet on applicable models. Call 1-888-496-4700 or check the product listing for length availability on specific HH models.
