Frequently Asked Questions

Chains are used in rigging and lifting assemblies to connect, extend, or repair chain slings and load chains, or as the load-bearing chain itself in sling and hoist assemblies.
Chain grade (such as Grade 80 or Grade 100) determines the working load limit for a given chain diameter - a higher grade carries more load at the same diameter. Never mix chain grades or substitute a lower-grade component into a rated assembly.
Working load limit depends on chain diameter and grade and is set by the chain manufacturer. The WLL of any accessory (hook, link, or connector) added to the chain must equal or exceed the chain's own rating.
Inspect each link for wear, stretch, nicks, gouges, and corrosion before each use, and follow a documented periodic inspection schedule. Retire chain if stretch or wear at any link exceeds the manufacturer's allowable limit.
